Revenue from premium services funds the continued development and free availability of the mWater platform. About Stellar

Why Stellar exists

The mWater core platform will remain free and unlimited for all users, consistent with our founding commitment. New AI-enabled features that import and store external data from sensors and third-party systems require significant additional server resources and ongoing infrastructure costs.

Stellar, Inc. is a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary created to offer these premium data integration and AI-powered analytics services on a paid basis. Its profits flow back to the nonprofit to sustain and expand the free platform.

No existing features move behind a paywall. The entire mWater platform, including collection, analysis, visualization, and sharing, stays free.

What Stellar provides

Stellar provides AI-powered connectors that import external datasets such as sensor feeds, SCADA, and billing systems into mWater's database, so they can be analyzed alongside your existing asset and operations data. It also provides premium AI-powered data analytics services, with a free tier for basic usage.

Governance and mission

Stellar is wholly owned by mWater Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The nonprofit board retains governance authority. All core platform intellectual property remains with the nonprofit, and all Stellar profits belong to the Foundation and support its mission to democratize access to data and technology. Verified government and public-sector users in low-income countries receive subsidized or free access.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the premium paid services ("Services") offered by Stellar, Inc. ("Stellar"), a wholly owned subsidiary of mWater Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By purchasing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms.

1. About Stellar, Inc.

Stellar, Inc. is a for-profit subsidiary of mWater Foundation, Inc., the nonprofit that operates the mWater platform. Stellar offers premium data integration and AI-powered analytics services on a commercial basis. Profits support the continued development and free availability of the mWater platform. The core mWater platform — including data collection, analysis, visualization, sharing, and all current functionality — remains free and is governed separately. These Terms apply only to Stellar's paid premium Services.

2. The Services

2.1 API Data Tier. Access to the full mWater data API (all endpoints, read and write) beyond the free usage threshold. Usage is measured in rows stored in the subscriber's mWater organization. The first 10,000 stored rows are free for every organization. Organizations requiring larger storage may subscribe to a paid API tier. API calls are limited to one request per hour per endpoint. Pricing: $500/month, or $5,000/year (two months free), for up to 1,000,000 stored rows.

2.2 Partnership Support Tier. A premium support and capability package including: priority responses to complex support requests (restoring deleted data, shapefile and asset imports, platform integrations, workflow design, calculations and indicator support, advanced query and dashboard design); access to a direct support Slack channel with the mWater/Stellar team; 100× table data import limits (up to 1,000,000 rows per table); bulk data operations (e.g. updating up to 1,000 sites at once); and priority beta access to new features. Pricing: $250/month, or $2,500/year (two months free).

2.3 Additional Services. Additional services, including AI-powered data connectors and analytics, may be made available. Pricing and terms will be published at the time of launch.

3. Eligibility and Account Access

3.1 Organizational Accounts. The Services are sold to organizations, not individuals. The person completing the purchase must have authority to bind the organization to these Terms.

3.2 Access Method. Services are accessed through your organization's existing mWater account at portal.mwater.co. There is no separate application to download or account to create. Initial activation is handled manually by Stellar staff following confirmation of payment; you will receive a confirmation email when your subscription is active.

3.3 Subsidized Access. Verified government and public-sector organizations in countries classified as low-income by United Nations definitions may be eligible for subsidized or free access. To apply, contact support@stellardata.co.

4. Payment and Billing

4.1 Payment Processor. Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), which acts as Merchant of Record for all transactions. By completing a purchase, you also agree to Paddle's terms of service. Paddle handles all payment processing, tax collection, and compliance on Stellar's behalf.

4.2 Subscriptions. Services are sold as monthly or annual subscriptions. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.

4.3 Pricing. Prices are listed in USD. Taxes may be added at checkout depending on your jurisdiction and are collected and remitted by Paddle.

4.4 Cancellation. You may cancel at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until that date.

5. Refunds

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy at stellardata.co/refunds. New subscribers may request a full refund within 14 days of initial payment. Subscriptions are otherwise non-refundable except in cases of billing error or where required by applicable law. Paddle, as Merchant of Record, processes all refund requests.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You may not: resell or sublicense access without written permission from Stellar; use the Services to store or process data in violation of applicable law; attempt to circumvent usage limits or access controls; or interfere with or disrupt the Services or underlying servers.

7. Data and Privacy

Your use of the Services is subject to Stellar's Privacy Policy and the mWater AI Policy. Data you submit remains your property. Stellar processes your data only as necessary to deliver the Services.

8. Intellectual Property

The mWater platform, Stellar's integration services, and all associated software, documentation, and content are the intellectual property of mWater Foundation, Inc. and Stellar, Inc. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights. You retain ownership of all data you submit.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available." Stellar makes no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stellar's total liability for any claim arising from the Services shall not exceed the fees you paid to Stellar in the three months preceding the claim. In no event shall Stellar be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

12. Changes to These Terms

Stellar may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the platform. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Stellar, Inc. ("Stellar") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our premium services ("Services"). Stellar is a wholly owned subsidiary of mWater Foundation, Inc. This policy applies to Stellar's paid premium Services; use of the core mWater platform is governed separately at mwater.co/privacy.

1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Billing Information (via Paddle): organization name and contact information; billing address; payment method details (processed and stored by Paddle — Stellar does not store raw payment card data); email address of the account administrator.

2.2 Usage Data: API call logs (timestamps, endpoints accessed, row counts); support requests and communications; feature usage and session data.

2.3 Data You Submit: operational data, survey data, sensor readings, and other content. This data is yours (see Section 5).

2.4 AI Feature Data: when you use AI-powered features, relevant portions of your data may be transmitted to our AI Service Providers, governed by the mWater AI Policy. AI Service Providers do not use your data to train their models.

3. How We Use Your Information

To deliver and maintain the Services; process billing and manage subscriptions via Paddle; respond to support requests; send transactional communications (receipts, renewal notices, service updates); monitor usage for compliance with limits and Terms; improve the Services and troubleshoot; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

For EEA/UK users: contract performance; legitimate interests (usage monitoring, fraud prevention, service improvement); legal obligation; and consent (for optional communications).

5. Submitted Data

All data you submit remains your property. Stellar processes it solely to deliver the Services and does not analyze, share, or commercialize it beyond what is required for that purpose.

6. Data Sharing

We share data only with: Paddle (payment processor and Merchant of Record); AI Service Providers (under agreements prohibiting use of your data for model training — see the mWater AI Policy); mWater Foundation, Inc. (aggregated usage and billing data for financial reporting and governance); legal requirements (law, court order, regulator); and business transfers (merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you).

7. Data Retention

  • Billing records: 7 years (accounting/tax obligations)
  • Account data: duration of subscription plus 2 years after termination
  • Usage logs: 12 months
  • Support communications: 3 years
  • AI conversation logs: may be retained for service improvement; deleted or anonymized upon a valid deletion request (see Section 8)

8. Your Rights

Depending on jurisdiction: access, correction, deletion (subject to retention obligations), restriction/objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent. Contact support@stellardata.co; we respond within 30 days. EEA/UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

9. Security

Encrypted data transmission (TLS), need-to-know access controls, and regular security reviews. We will notify you of any data breach affecting your personal data as required by law.

10. International Data Transfers

Stellar operates from the United States. For users outside the US, data may be transferred there. For EEA/UK users, transfers are subject to [PENDING: confirm mechanism, e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses — requires legal review post-incorporation].

11. Minors

The Services are not directed at individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

12. Changes to This Policy

Refund Policy

This Refund Policy applies to subscriptions and purchases made through Stellar, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of mWater Foundation, Inc. All payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), which acts as Merchant of Record. Refund requests are handled by Paddle in accordance with this policy.

1. 14-Day Refund Window for New Subscriptions

New subscribers may request a full refund within 14 days of their initial payment. Contact support@stellardata.co within 14 days of the charge date. No reason is required.

2. Subscription Renewals

Subscriptions renew automatically; you'll receive an email reminder before each renewal. Refunds are not issued for renewals already processed, except as described in Section 3. To avoid a renewal charge, cancel before the renewal date via your account settings or by contacting support.

3. Eligible Refunds Outside the 14-Day Window

  • Billing error: you were charged an incorrect amount, or charged after cancelling
  • Service unavailability: the Services were materially unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours of unplanned downtime during a billing period
  • Duplicate charges: you were charged more than once for the same subscription period
  • Consumer law requirements: where applicable law requires a refund right, such as EU cooling-off periods

4. How to Request a Refund

Contact support@stellardata.co with: the email associated with your account; your organization name; the date and amount of the charge; and a brief reason. We respond within five business days. Approved refunds are processed by Paddle and typically appear within five to ten business days.

5. Cancellations

Cancelling does not entitle you to a refund for the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until the end of the period already paid for.

6. Annual Subscriptions

Annual plans are priced at roughly two months free (about 17% off the monthly rate). Partial refunds on unused months are considered case by case — contact support@stellardata.co.
